Solutions Weight Loss Clinic - Weight Loss Program That Works
Solutions Weight Loss Clinic is a weight loss and wellness clinic founded by Sheryl Flynn in Olympia, Washington on September 7, 2003. Flynn has over twenty years of clinical experience and training in the weight loss industry which has contributed to the foundation of the Solutions program. Sheryl got her start working with Weight Loss Clinics of America as clinic director in the Tacoma and Olympia area. Soon thereafter, she moved into an area supervisor position, overseeing seven clinics in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Following the companies closing in 1991, Sheryl was offered the opportunity to become the clinic director of The Healthy Weigh in Olympia, Washington. After a successful run with The Healthy Weigh, Sheryl decided to open her own nutritional clinic. Solutions has since grown to a clientele of over 1700 past and present clients. In addition to weight loss programs, Solutions also works with a broad scope of others in need of nutritional guidance including, oncology patients, lactating mothers, and those who are learning to manage their diabetes and high blood pressure.
The program approach combines nutritional guidance, positive behavioral and healthy lifestyle changes. The program has earned the recommendation of many area medical physicians and mental health practitioners. Solutions partners directly with client's medical practitioners to ensure that the individual's unique nutritional needs are being met. Progress reports are sent out at regular intervals to keep physicians up to date on their patient's improvement so that medications can be monitored and adjusted as needed.
Following the American Heart Association's Guidelines for Weight Management which states: "The guidelines also emphasize the importance of weight management programs in which participants achieve and maintain realistic weight loss goals for a lifetime because the maintenance of even small weight losses may be associated with improvements in cardiovascular risk factors." Solutions emphasizes the importance of long-term weight management and employs behavioral and lifestyle modifications to help clients determine the underlying cause of their weight gain and the steps they can take to lose weight in the present and maintain the weight loss in the future.
An article featuring the successes of Solutions Weight Loss Clinic was published in The Olympian in 2007.
Diet
The diet is based on recommendations made by the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association. Emphasis is placed on lean proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and healthy and informed dairy and starch choices. Each client attends an initial consultation and entry class where they learn the specifics of their weight loss plan. All plans are adapted to meet the individual characteristics of each client. Clients track their food intake in a food journal. The journal is reviewed during their individual visits to identify what foods are working and what foods may still be problematic. Studies have indicated that those who keep track of their food intake on a regular basis lose up to twice as much weight as those who don't. Because of this, Solutions places a large emphasis on keeping the journals up to date and bringing them to every visit.
Behavioral
Solutions employs a form of cognitive behavioral modification which identifies dysfunctional self-talk and behaviors in order to change undesirable eating habits. This is done through a series of behavioral guides aimed at getting the clients to dig deeper into the underlying causes and origins of their weight gain. The behavioral guides are reviewed during the visits to recognize the negative thought processes. Once these have been identified, the consultant works with the client to create a new and positive thought pattern. Studies have indicated that the development of behavioral and cognitive skills learned during weight loss is critical to successful weight loss maintenance. Clients have one on one visits three times a week where they weigh in and review their food journals and any behavioral pieces that were assigned. These visits help reinforce the client's accountability to their weight loss commitment and continue to reinforce their weight loss goals.
